A notable recent motor vehicle collision case that we had was in Kentucky. One of our clients was a woman who was driving for work, and while she was driving, another motorist came along—someone who had had four DUIs, no license, no insurance, and who had been lent a car by someone else. Also driving drunk, he was coming across four lanes of travel and struck our client, injuring her. Our client had good defensive driving techniques, and she had a dash cam. So we were able to see all these things and, in real time, hear what her reaction was and see what she did to minimize the effect of the collision. And luckily she did. Although she did get injured, she only had about $6,000 to $7,000 worth of medical bills—far less than it could have been. When we got the case, looked at the dash cam footage, and started immediately gathering evidence on this other driver and on the owner of the vehicle that had lent the car, we went to the insurance company for the owner of that vehicle and made a case to them that, at a jury trial, the jury would throw the book at them. Eventually, that insurance company agreed with us, and despite the fact that she had around $7,000 worth of medical bills, we were able to achieve a policy-limit six-figure settlement for her.
